“Israel, Marijuana, and New Mexico” and Member Meeting, Thursday, April 19, 6:30 pm

Speaker:  Israel, Marijuana, and New Mexico

Note:  This talk is this coming Thursday, April 19, 6:30 pm at Chabad, 230 W. Manhattan St. followed by our bimonthly member meeting.  We apologize; the subject line of our last email misstated the date/time.

Israel is way ahead of New Mexico in legalizing and studying cannabis for multiple ailments.  An Israeli at the Weizmann Institute first isolated THC, the active ingredient in marijuana in 1964.  In the early 1990s Israel permitted the use of marijuana-related products for medical reasons.  In 2004 the Israel Defense Forces began using THC for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder affected soldiers experimentally.

Israel’s Panaxia Pharmaceuticals is a leader in developing and manufacturing innovative high-quality cannabis products.  It’s mission is to “bring consistency, high-quality and standardization to make medical cannabis accessible for those who need it.”
Come hear Keren-Or Amar, PhD, Panaxia’s Medical Marketing Director, discuss how Israel became a leader in cannabis medication, and developed its partnership with New Mexico’s Ultra Health’s nine medical cannabis dispensaries.Santa Fe Jewish Center – Chabad

Israel and the World – Speaker Steven Schneider from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)

Many thanks to AIPAC’s Steven Schneider for an excellent talk on “Israel and the World” yesterday, April 15.  His vast first-hand knowledge of the leaders of countries with relationships with Israel was impressive, and his analysis of changes in various regional blocs and individual country relationships (public and behind-the-scenes) was invaluable.

Thanks to Kevin Altman, AIPAC’s area director, and Rabbi Berel and Rebbetzin Devorah Leah for providing space and a kosher lunch and inviting SFMEW members.

SFMEW is a beneficiary organization of the Jewish Federation of New Mexico.
