Sunday, May 7, 11:00 MT:

Judiciary Reform is a controversial topic in Israel right now.  There are lots of sources to hear the nuances.  We’d suggest you not make up your mind about this topic from the social media or broadcast/newspaper media, which simplify and politicize the difficult questions being discussed.  Instead learn more about it from legal sources fully knowledgeable about the issues:

  1. The most comprehensive of discussions from right, left, and center is an 8-part podcast series from the Times of Israel here or cut and paste:  https://www.timesofisrael.com/new-toi-podcast-points-lens-at-looming-highly-influential-judicial-reform/
  2. From Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) and Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME – recall Asaf Romirowsky, who is executive director of both of these organizations, spoke in Santa Fe for SFMEW in 2019) here, or cut and paste:  https://spme.org/activities/constitutions-and-courts-in-israel-from-the-declaration-of-independence-to-the-current-crisis/27663/

There was also a talk by legal scholar Avi Bell for SPME on May 4.  It will be put up on the SPME website soon.
