Will you help out by writing to the media?

We hope you’ve had a chance to read our latest blog posting you received two days ago about the Lannan Foundation’s ongoing anti-Semitic activities re: Ilan Pappe’s fiction (January 23), and the upcoming Alice Walker lecture (May 8).  Would you agree that Lannan’s consistent, annual sponsorship of these types of extraordinarily biased speakers is a detriment to Santa Fe?

There were several letters to the editor that our members sent in response to the Pappe lecture, and the Lannan’s ongoing presentation of anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic speakers.  Was yours one of them?

We thank Kristina Harrigan, our Media Committee Chair, and Susan Goldstein for helping on our media response effort. Now Susan is soliciting your help:

Dear Friends,

After going to the anti-zionist talk at the Lensic (Lannan Foundation), and the fact that those who attend can’t get any kind of balanced view of Israel, it’s clear to me that we need to get our side of the story out to the media wherever we can, exposing the anti-Semitism and propaganda of the Lannan speakers. Hence I’m happy to help any of you who would like to express yourselves in the New Mexican, SF Reporter, or other outlets. A knowledgeable co-worker is available to help you generate ideas and edit letters or op-eds.

Several SFMEW members have already pledged to join this effort. Would you be willing to help out also? I would like to build the number of SFMEW members who would will contribute.  May I add you to our list of responders when we encounter anti-Zionism or anti-Semitism in our community, whether from Lannan or other sources.

When there is something to write about I will email you and we can discuss how you would like to proceed. Then I will follow up with a phone call to see if you need any assistance.

Please indicate your willingness to participate in this endeavor by emailing to me, susanraku@aol.com, your name, email address, and phone number.

Thank you.

Susan

A lot is happening in Israel and with the US-Israel relationship:

  • Just today, February 28, Prime Minister Netanyahu was indicted on bribery and breach of trust charges.
  • Jared Kushner is discussing parts of the developing US Israel-Palestinian peace treaty proposal with interested parties in the Middle East.
  • Iran is pushing its foothold in Syria, threatening Israel’s northern border.
  • The UK has designated Hezbollah (all of it, including its social services arm) a terrorist organization.
  • Israelis are going to the polls on April 9 to elect new members of the Knesset and prime minister.
  • Hamas continues to encourage the use of incendiary balloons to damage crops, homes, and forests near the Gaza border in its environmental terrorism.
  • And yet, Israel continues innovating, developing life-saving medical treatments and services, providing care to tens of thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza, and during emergency catastrophes around the world.
  • And much more…

Want to get the most up-to-date information on these and other late-breaking issues?

Join the many New Mexicans already registered to attend the AIPAC annual policy conference in Washington, DC, March 23-26.   While we may have a record-breaking number of attendees in recent memory, we need more of you to attend to show our Members of Congress that we seriously care about a strong US-Israel relationship when we lobby them on Tuesday, March 26.  Click here for more information and to register.
